Writing to write

So it’s been awhile, eh? I feel a bit of nostalgia at that familiar feeling of staring at a blank page/screen.

I’m kind of not happy about my writing skills atrophying after finishing school. My main writing consists of commenting in quests (d20 Pony, Esquestria), which I wouldn’t necessarily consider a path to rhetorical greatness. And that feeling of knowing there’s a word you want but not being able to recall it? Ugh.

So here I am. Priming the pump. Oiling the press. Clearing my metaphorical throat. Writing to write, to get back in practice. Part of this process is that I have to accept that it won’t be the most stimulating thing to read. I mean, great works of writing are a combination of what’s being said, and how it’s said. I think my workmanship is acceptable, but my message is “I really need to get writing again”, which can only be so compelling. Actually, let me try…

This is the way
for the long dead to speak,
for the yet unborn to hear,
for the living to touch immortality.

Words part from space and time.
There are many like it,
but these are mine.

Aren’t I pithy? 😁

There is a “write 100 posts in a year” challenge (100 Days To Offload), but I’m not yet certain if I’ll be able to build enough of a writing habit to not fail miserably after my post declaring that I’ve started the challenge. I’ll take things one step at a time for now.
